Social and Emotional Education
The Family School Wellness Workers at River Valley School and Sundre High School are happy to bring the Saffron Center to our school communities on March 31 and April 1 to provide additional social and emotional education opportunities for select grades. At this time, the high school presentation 'Learning About Trauma' will be geared towards students in grades 9 and 10. Trauma is something that can impact everyone. This presentation is designed to introduce the topic specifically for youth. We discuss what trauma is, symptoms of it, and how to deal with their feelings in a healthy way. We also emphasize the importance of reaching out when it’s needed, having a good support system, and we offer external resources for those who may need extra help. It is our hope that these presentations will be beneficial to the ongoing social and emotional needs of the amazing students at our school.
In addition, the Saffron Center will be providing an online (at this time) parent presentation the evening of March 31st. This presentation will be open to all parents with a specific focus on youth. The presentation is Foundations Of Connections: How To Communicate With Your Youth. In this presentation, the elements of healthy relationships including boundaries and consent will be defined. The goal of the first half is to educate parents and/or professionals on language they can use to teach children. The second half is dedicated to healthy parent-child relationships; how to develop healthy habits with your children and how to teach them about consent, conflict, and how to recognize healthy or unhealthy behaviours in others.
