August 2020 Cap & Gown Ceremony Update

Graduates and Family Members Please Review This Document Prior to Saturday, August 29th

We continue to work closely with CESD and Alberta Health Services guidelines on planning the graduation process.  It is essential that everyone self-monitor using the AHS COVID-19 Self Assessment and that individuals do not attend in person if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the two weeks prior to the ceremony.  In addition we ask that all graduates and family members have a mask with them on that day. Graduates will be required to wear a mask at various points throughout the ceremony and because families may be in close proximity to others we ask that they also wear a mask at all times while in the building or when social distancing cannot be maintained.

The entire program will be streamed live on YouTube.  A link will be provided through our website and Facebook page on the day of the ceremony. It is strongly recommended that families download the YouTube app on their mobile device or tablet prior to that day.

Information for Graduates:

  • Graduates must be at the school no later than 9:00AM on Saturday.
  • Graduates will be required to bring and wear a mask at all times.  Masks will be off when walking across the stage.
  • It is recommended that grads wear something nice under their gowns for their pictures.  Something similar to what they wore for their spring grad photos would be best.
  • When arriving, taking pictures and when leaving, please do not gather in groups and remain socially distanced.

Information for Parents/Families:

  • To maintain Alberta Health guidelines for indoor graduations parents and family members will not be permitted in the school for the formal speeches and addresses. These can be viewed via the livestream on our website and Facebook page.
  • Graduates will be staged in alphabetical order for the Cap and Gown section. At least 4 family groups will be staged in the school at a time. These groups will then proceed forward towards the front of the gym as graduates cross the stage.
  • Parents and family members of graduates at the beginning of the alphabet should be ready to enter the main doors of the school at 10:15AM. Parents and families of graduates later in the alphabet need to monitor the livestream to ensure they are present for when their student is on stage. Staff members will be present to help organize parents/families and to ensure Alberta Health guidelines are being maintained.
  • Lifetouch will be taking pictures of each grad on the stage as well as an individual photo that they can then photoshop into a group “Class of 2020” photo.
  • When arriving, taking pictures and leaving please do not gather in groups and remain socially distanced.
